From Curiosity to Passion: My Journey to Understand ADHD and Learning Challenges
My journey into understanding learning challenges and ADHD began with a simple yet eye-opening conversation with another mom at my daughter’s kindergarten. We were chatting about our kids when she mentioned her son was in a special class. She explained that he could read but struggled to understand what he read. This was over fifteen years ago; she didn't mention the name of this condition, but I was intrigued.
Driven by curiosity, I went to our local library, headed into the Educational Psychology section, and discovered books by Dr.Mel Levine. These books opened my eyes to the various learning challenges children face and gave me a deeper understanding of what they are called. The more I read, the more fascinated I became with the complexities of learning and the different ways our brains work.
Over the years, a few Indian movies, like “Taare Zameen Par” and “Three Idiots,” have further fueled my curiosity about individual learning styles and values. These films beautifully depict the struggles and triumphs of those who think and learn differently. I noticed that some incredibly bright individuals, both children and adults, often seemed to underachieve—whether in academics, careers, or even self-care. This realization struck a chord with me and made me want to help.
During the lockdown, with extra time on my hands, I stumbled upon a Facebook group for women with ADHD. Reading their stories, I felt a sense of connection and understanding. Through this group, I discovered the ADHD Coach Academy. I enrolled in their introductory course, and from that moment, I was hooked. The course not only deepened my understanding of ADHD but also gave me practical tools to help others. Now, as a certified ADHD coach, I am passionate about supporting individuals to unlock their potential and thrive in their unique ways.
